Gardenstown

Gardenstown itself has a butcher, baker, post office, general grocery stores, pub and filling station. Supermarkets can be found in Macduff or Banff to the west or Fraserburgh to the east.

 

Eating Out

The very highly recommended Harbour Restaurant is situated on the harbour at Gardenstown, and the  Pennan Inn (6 miles) offers a lively restaurant and bar food.   Further afield, Macduff and Banff have assorted restaurants and the nearest castles, Fyvie and Delgaty, together with Duff House in Banff, have a high standard of tea room, serving light lunches and traybakes

 

Wildlife

This area has an abundance of wildlife with hundreds of species of birds, including heron, all species of gulls, fulmar and puffin, sanderlings and turnstones, buzzards too.  The RSPB has recently taken over the largest gannetry in mainland Scotland at nearby Troup Head, which is home to an estimated 1500 breeding pairs and is visited by around 150,000 seabirds during the summer including puffins, guillemots and razorbills. Other bird sightings include shags, cormorants and eider ducks.  

 

There is a large grey seal colony and the Moray Firth dolphins are frequent visitors to the bay.  Porpoises and minke whales can be seen, and boat trips are available from Gardenstown, Macduff and Banff.

 

The wildlife centre at Spey Bay provides further information on local sealife.

 

Golf

The North East of Scotland is spoiled for golf courses. Within a 40 mile radius there are numerous courses, ranging from links courses to inland courses. Both Macduff (7 miles) and Banff (9 miles) have 18 hole courses.  Macduff also has a driving range.

 

Fishing

For the keen angler, the River Deveron is in nearby Macduff, while sea fishing is available either from shore or boat, all round the coast.

 

Leisure

Nearby Banff and Macduff offer more facilities including: ten pin bowling, outdoor bowls, tennis court, swimming pool.

Castle Trail and Whisky Trail are within easy reach.

 

Aberdeen

For day out visit the "granite city" of Aberdeen with its own beautiful beach.  All air and rail links from Aberdeen, museums, cinemas, restaurants, etc. together with all the main high street shops, and local shops too!
